COMPLETE AND INCOMPLETE MANUSCRIPTS ARE WELCOME

Proposing a Manuscript

We welcome submissions of complete and incomplete manuscripts for our Safis Publishing imprint. The process consists of three stages.

BOOK IDEA

Proposal Submission

Please email the manuscript and your CV to submissions@safispub.com. To be able to reach a decision, we not only need to see the manuscript, but we also need the following information about your manuscript:

  • Provisional title and subtitle: You can propose more than one.
  • Summary: 200-500 words.
  • Table of contents: Include at least the chapter headings with a short description of what each chapter covers.
  • Number of words: The number of words is a better measure of the length of a manuscript than the page count because the latter can change significantly with changes to the layout. You can get the number of words from the word processer you use.
  • Contribution to literature: The new contributions that your book makes to the already available literature.
  • Target audience: Describe the readers that your book targets. In particular, specify whether the book is for the general reader or the expert and what prerequisite information may be needed for reading it.
  • Competition: Give details about any competing free content or published titles and why you think readers would still want to buy your book. It is useful to think in terms of the unique selling points of your book.
ASSESSMENT

Editorial Review

Upon receiving your book proposal, our editorial team will review it and respond within two working days. At times, we will need more information from you before we can make a final decision, so we may have to ask you to send us additional information.

When we receive a proposal, we assess the following:

  • Whether the subject is one we are interested in
  • What new contributions it offers to the already published works in the field
  • The amount of interest in such a topic among readers
  • The quality of the manuscript

These checks allow us to decide on the suitability of the manuscript for Safis.

DECISION

Publishing Decision

These are the possible outcomes of the editorial review:

  • The manuscript proposal is accepted. Next, we move on to issue a publishing contract. We bear all publishing costs. The book is published under our Safis Publishing imprint.
  • The manuscript is commercially too risky. We offer to provide you with publishing services to get the book published. Usually, you bear the full costs, but in some cases, we offer to share some of the costs. The book is published under our Clear Press imprint. Arabic books are published under our Dar Al-Tariqa imprint.

The nature of the publishing agreement determines which imprint we publish your manuscript under. You can read about our three imprints here.

The terms of the publishing agreement also reflect which publishing route is agreed.
